Breakfast at leisure, then explore the hill capital of Kandy, eminent as the centre of Buddhism and the stronghold of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Explore the town at your leisure. Pay homage to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses Sri Lanka’s most sacred relic - a tooth of the Lord Buddha. Visit the Udawattekele forest reserve or the bustling streets and market places. Take in the views from upper Lake drive. Back at Ashburnham, follow the waterfall trail for a quick dip - with views.

Start the day with a tea experience tour. Join Ashburnham’s own field manager on his rounds of the estate comprising 100 acres of tea. Watch the tea pluckers expertly pick their ‘two leaves and a bud’. Learn more about tea cultivation and head back with the pickers to weigh the crop. Set off to explore the foothills of the knuckles range - a unique cloud forest, and a World Heritage Site. You can take the scenic route and visit a few waterfalls along the way too.

Take a ride that is considered to be one of the most epic train journeys in the world. The pace is leisurely, but the wonderful scenery you encounter along the way makes you forget the time and everything else. The line winds through villages, forests and tea estates. It curves round high mountain passes giving you magnificent views of waterfalls and valleys beyond. This is an unforgettable way to catch a glimpse of real Sri Lanka. In this 5-hour trek you will experience the true beauty of Sri Lanka’s mountain region, while taking in all the famous landmark attractions Ella is known for. Walk to the incredible Nine Arch bridge - perfect for those social media photos. Visit the Demodara railway station, renowned for its ‘loop’ - a unique feature for turning trains around, and the only one of its kind in Sri Lanka. Then continue to Little Adam’s Peak, a tough trek, but worth it for the amazing views especially at sunset.

Enjoy the scenic drive from Ella to Wellawaya. Your stay is a unique, agro-luxury resort. Nestled in a low valley amidst lush paddy fields circled by mountains, Jetwing Kaduruketha is designed to resemble a traditional village surrounded by nature. The fields around the property are harvested by the villagers. You can learn all about rice cultivation and the local traditions and ceremonies intrinsically linked to it, perhaps take part in some yourself. Later, visit a viewpoint to catch a glimpse of the magnificent Diyaluma waterfall.

In the morning, explore the nearby villages. Following the overgrown footpaths through fields and river banks you will see and experience the true essence of rural life in Sri Lanka. Along the way, greet the locals, taste some homemade treats at a tiny wayside hut, drink a coconut or some herbal tea. Stop to visit the Kirindi Oya river and enjoy a refreshing dip before continuing your leisurely walk through the paddy fields. At nightfall, explore the jungle trails nearby to spot some nocturnal wildlife.

After a leisurely breakfast, set off to explore along the nearby forest trails to Ella Wala waterfall hidden deep inside the jungle. At just 4-5 metres tall, but beautiful with a natural pool perfect for bathing and enjoying a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, trek to visit the spectacular Diyaluma Falls - the 2nd highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Cascading at different levels with natural pools on the top, the main water drop is 220-metres high. The trek is very challenging, but not to be missed.

A scenic drive to the south coast, and Galle - Sri Lanka’s oldest living city dotted with historic sites with a fusion of European and Arabic cultural and architectural influences. In the afternoon, explore the Galle Fort with its cobbled streets and learn the history behind its Ramparts. A hive of activity, arts and culture it is one of the few World Heritage listed sites in which a bustling population continues to thrive with alleys lined with restaurants, art galleries and shops selling jewellery and antiques.

Hiking up Mini Adam’s Peak is an easy and very rewarding one. At 1141m above sea level, the panoramic views are truly breathtaking.
This impressive cascade is the widest in Sri Lanka, and legend states that King Ravana held the Indian princess Sita captive in them.
