3 and a half hours
After breakfast, leave the coast behind and travel inland towards Sigiriya, passing rural villages, green landscapes and traditional countryside scenes along the way. This region sits within Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, where ancient history, nature and village life come together. On arrival, enjoy lunch and check in to your hotel before heading out later in the day for a sunset climb at Pidurangala Rock. From the summit, take in wide views across the surrounding jungle with Sigiriya Rock Fortress rising dramatically in the distance. Along the trail, you will pass a working Buddhist shrine where modest clothing and removing shoes for a short section is customary. It is a quiet reminder of the spiritual traditions woven into daily life in Sri Lanka. In the evening, enjoy a relaxed welcome dinner surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of Sigiriya.
Begin early with a climb of the ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Reaching the summit in the morning allows you to enjoy cooler temperatures and sweeping views across gardens, forests and distant hills. Rising from the plains, Sigiriya is one of the island’s great historical landmarks, with ancient frescoes, landscaped water gardens and impressive engineering from Sri Lanka’s royal past. After breakfast, continue towards Kandy, travelling through spice-growing regions, lush greenery and lively local towns. On arrival, settle into your riverside hotel and enjoy lunch at the hotel or in town at one of Kandy’s relaxed local cafes. Later, join a traditional Sri Lankan cooking experience. Visit local markets, discover regional ingredients and learn to prepare authentic Sri Lankan dishes alongside local hosts in a village setting. It is a hands-on introduction to the island’s food culture and hospitality.
Leave Kandy and travel into Sri Lanka’s hill country via Nuwara Eliya, where the air turns cooler and the scenery shifts to tea-covered mountains, waterfalls and misty valleys. Stop at Ramboda Falls before visiting Bluefield Tea Factory and Plantation. Here, learn about the story of Ceylon Tea, walk through the tea estate and enjoy fresh tea with views across the rolling hills. Later, continue to Ambewela and board the train to Ella. This scenic railway journey winds through mountain forests, tea estates, tunnels and dramatic valleys, making it one of Sri Lanka’s most memorable travel experiences. Arrive in Ella and check in to your hill-country retreat surrounded by rainforest and mountain views. The evening is yours to relax at the hotel or explore Ella’s lively cafes and restaurants.
Rise early to visit the famous Nine Arches Bridge, where morning light settles across the jungle and railway arches. Watch the train pass over one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed landmarks before continuing through Ella’s scenic hill-country surroundings. Later, take a gentle hike to Little Adam’s Peak. From the top, enjoy panoramic views across rolling hills, tea plantations and mountain scenery. The walk is rewarding without being too demanding and offers one of Ella’s best viewpoints. After the hike, spend time at leisure. You may relax at your hotel, wander through Ella town or stop at one of its relaxed cafes. In the afternoon, unwind at Ravana Pool Club with drinks and light bites surrounded by tropical scenery and mountain views.
Travel from Ella towards Sri Lanka’s wild south, where the landscapes gradually change from cool mountain scenery to dry-zone wilderness. Along the way, pass Ravana Falls before visiting Buduruwagala Temple, known for its ancient rock-carved Buddhist figures and peaceful setting. Stop for lunch before continuing towards your safari camp near Yala National Park. On arrival, spend some time relaxing by the pool before joining an optional afternoon jeep safari. Yala is one of Sri Lanka’s most rewarding wildlife regions, home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, birdlife and leopards. An optional afternoon safari offers an early chance to experience the park before the next morning’s wildlife drive. In the evening, enjoy dinner under the stars at camp, surrounded by the sounds and stillness of the wilderness.
Begin the day with an early morning safari in Yala National Park, when wildlife is often most active. Explore the park with experienced trackers as you search for elephants, crocodiles, birdlife and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Return to camp for breakfast before travelling towards Udawalawe, another of Sri Lanka’s well-known wildlife regions. Udawalawe is especially loved for its elephant population and open landscapes. Stop for lunch in Udawalawe town before checking in to your accommodation near Udawalawe Lake and Udawalawe National Park. Spend the afternoon at leisure or join an optional jeep safari for another opportunity to see wild elephants and other animals in their natural habitat.
After breakfast, visit the Elephant Transit Home, where orphaned elephant calves are cared for and rehabilitated before being released back into the wild. This conservation-focused visit offers a thoughtful insight into Sri Lanka’s efforts to protect its elephant population. Continue towards the southern coast and arrive in Dickwella, close to the relaxed beach town of Hiriketiya. Check in to your beachfront stay and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Hiriketiya is a crescent-shaped bay known for its surf culture, cafes, swimming beach and laid-back coastal atmosphere. You may relax by the ocean, explore local boutiques, hire a surfboard or simply enjoy the slower rhythm of the south coast. Later, join an optional coastal yoga session or enjoy sunset drinks beside the Indian Ocean before dinner at one of the area’s popular local restaurants.
Spend your final full day in Sri Lanka enjoying the relaxed coastal atmosphere of Dickwella and Hiriketiya. The day is yours to enjoy at your own pace, whether relaxing on the beach, visiting local cafes or exploring nearby bays and coastal towns. Optional surf lessons are available for those who would like to experience Hiriketiya’s beginner-friendly waves. You may also explore nearby places such as Blue Beach Island, Mirissa, Weligama and Coconut Tree Hill, each offering a different view of Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner at Dots, celebrating a journey through ancient landscapes, mountain scenery, national parks and tropical beaches.
